National Trust weekend Pt 1...

just wanted to post about the weekend just gone ~ Mum and I had a really great, peaceful weekend. Having checked the National Trust website and saw they were advertising a it as 'free weekend' to numerous properties so we decided to brave the odd weather and went on our way.

First stop ~ Sissinghurst Castlea garden, in a ruin, in a farm

a great venue with lovely walled gardens and open areas for a stroll with a mote and a small lake at the back.  Lots of history about the Sackville West's who owned it. It also gave me the chance to do some more (v amateur) photography ...

Second Stop ~ Ightham Mote 14th century moated Manor House

I absolutely loved this place!  The grounds were stunning and the house was bigger so lots more to look around. A great volunteer guide who gave us the history of the house back to 13th century.  Ightham has just undertaken a £10 million conversation project to preserve it for as long as possible and it is truly worth it.  Sumptuous gardens and the tea in the restaurant was top class!  Always high on our visitor 'wish list'

so that was Saturday done, as you can see the weather was with us (thankfully).
