Put to the test... mascara

As I was not blessed with gorgeous long lashes like my sister, I am always on the quest for the perfect mascara.

Over the last few months I have trialled several, so here is a little round up of my findings.

1. Maybelline Falsies £8.19

It claims 'The Falsies Mascara delivers a false lash look; giving you a full set of voluminous, bold, fanned out lashes and the appearance of no gaps from any angle'

What I really liked about this mascara was the shorter, stubbier wand as it was easier to angle. I'm a contact lens wearer and thankfully this didn't flake and as I went for the non-waterproof version it was easy to remove. The effects really worked  - my lashes looked fuller, they curled without faffing with a lash curler and overall I was very impressed.  a little pricey but worth the spend. Score 5/5

2. Clarins Wonder Perfect £19

it claims 'A high-glamour mascara which gives lashes incredible volume, length and curl! They are perfectly coated and intensely covered from the first brushstrokes.'

I got this mascara as part of a gift package which was a real treat as I would never normally buy Clarins for myself. By contrast it has a long brush and a glamorous silver casing.  It easy to apply and found my lashes were curled and separated but not necessarily thicker. I would class this as a more of a high end product but for the results I could easily just use this as an everyday mascara.  This was the waterproof version so once again I found it difficult to remove easily. However, it didn't flake and stayed in place all day despite being a lens wear which I'm sure makes me blink alot more throughout the day than I would normally.   Score 3/5

3. Rimmel Volume Flash £5.99

it claims 'Speed up the volume on your lashes'

I bought this because I was 'in between' mascara's and because its a volume one I thought I'd give it a go.  Again I bought the black version, it has a short wand like most of the others but I just found it was too wet.  Once I'd pulled the brush from the applicator I found I was constantly having to wipe excess off the brush back in the tube.  It went on well but I found because it was so wet it smudged alot and to be honest this put me off.  I have kept it to use as a back up in case I forget mine but if I'm honest its not for me.  Not a bad price and you can't normally go wrong with Rimmel but I didn't rate this one as well as the others.  Score it 2/5

4. Collection 2000 Big Fake £4.99 (on special price at time of purchase)

it claims - New Collection 2000 Big Fake Mascara will double your lash length in one full swoop, and is bound to be your next big beauty buy.

I bought this to try because it was new and I do like Collection 2000 products.  This one had a short wand and I did find it very similar to the Maybelline product in as much as it made my lashes curl, look thicker and fuller. So I was really impressed. The only downside I found was this it appeared to dry out very quickly and unfortunately the end of the wand kept undoing so the brush needed 'twisting' to keep it on which was quite messy.  I really liked the results and maybe I just got a faulty brush so for the price I definitely would purchase again.  Score 3.5/5

I am continuing to use my Clarins but I still feel like I should only use it for 'best' which is silly i know.  I would definitely buy Maybelline again and astonish everyone with my luscious lashes.
