Race for life

May and June for most of us means getting out and about in the spring sunshine (?!) and possibly starting a pre-holiday exercise or dieting routine.

For some of us at this time of year it means dusting off our trainers, pink tutu's and tiara's to take part in Race for Life. The event is run every year up and down the country in aid of Cancer Research UK.

For my family and I this will be the 6th event we have taken part in. Each race is a huge local event and is professionally organised by an amazingly enthusiastic team of staff.

They are women only events but are open to anyone who wishes to walk, run or jog and many of the locations are suitable for mums with pushchairs and wheelchair users. Its a fantastic atmosphere and whether you race with the runners or amble along with the walkers its a brilliant event to be a part of in aid of such a great cause.

All of us who take part are helping to raise money towards continued research into on-going treatments and to hopefully find a cure. At the same time many are supporting those who have battled and won, are still fighting or remembering those who are no longer with us.

Whatever your story I would encourage you to take part, go down and support others or maybe even sign up to volunteer at your local event.
